
ABOUT ALLIE
Allie Barilla (Schauer) is a passionate voice teacher and pianist with an extensive knowledge of the physiology and pedagogy of healthy vocal technique. She values musicianship and incorporates sight singing, music theory, and piano into her voice lessons. She is also a professional actress and extensively coaches her students through the acting and interpretation of each song selection.
In addition to her private studio, Allie teaches on faculty in the CAP-21 BFA Musical Theatre program at Molloy University (NYC/Rockville Centre, NY). She previously taught voice at Teachers College, Columbia University (NYC) where she received her M.A. in Music Education, specializing in voice pedagogy and private studio teaching. She has a Bachelor of Music in vocal music education from Concordia College (Moorhead, MN). At Concordia, she studied classically as a soprano and served as an assistant conductor under the Grammy Award winning composer and conductor, Dr. Rene Clausen.
Allie is a member of Actors Equity and has performed in numerous productions and workshops in the company of many Broadway performers including Besty Wolfe, Noah Galvin, Laura Benanti, Jason Gotay, Beth Level, and Emily Skinner. She has also worked under the direction of some of the top music directors, directors and choreographers in the business including Academy Award winner and legend, Julie Andrews, Tony Award Winning choreographer/director, Christopher Gattelli, and Broadway music director Andy Einhorn. In 2011, she was cast to understudy Lauren Ambrose in the role of Fanny Brice in the projected Broadway production of 'Funny Girl'.
Allie is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the National and New York City Chapter. She regularly attends conferences and workshops and most recently attended Donald Gray Miller's Singing Voice Science Workshop. In 2019, she participated in the NATS-NYC chapter's voice teacher mentorship program where she attended workshops and was mentored by veteran voice teachers, Dr. Jan Prokop and the legendary, tony award winning voice teacher, Joan Lader.
The goal of her studio is to develop well-rounded, complete singers: singers with excellent vocal technique, great musicianship, and professional performance skills.
